Chicago Marathon Training Recap Week 12

Hey guys! Happy September! I can’t believe it’s already that time of year and that football starts this week! EEEEEK! Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. The temperatures become a little more bearable for outside running, pumpkin in everything, and cozying up in blankets with the scent of fall candles are all of my favorite things.

pumpkin-memeI also can’t believe we are less than 6 weeks out from The Chicago Marathon. I got my corral assignment and I’m starting think about the logistics of the weekend. This year, we will be staying downtown (about a 1/2 mile from the start). I’m looking forward to being in the center of it all and getting a few extra minutes of shut eye 😉 Last year we stayed near Rosemont. Yes it was muuuuchhh cheaper, but I didn’t love waking up so early and then having to venture back into the ‘burbs after the race. This past weekend, I completed my longest run to date since the Chicago Marathon 2013. Even though I wasn’t feeling my best, I still beat my time compared to last year. 
Monday: Rest day. We got back from Camping, I got a new phone with upgraded Spotify Access (no more commercials!) Because the sales guy talked me into buying a bluetooth speaker at an incredible price, I was gifted 6 months of premium Spotify access. Just in time for the marathon 🙂 
Tuesday: Ran 6 miles @ 9:06 pace. I wanted to run along the trails by our house, but didn’t want to go alone so hubs hooked Madelyn up in the Burley and they rode along side me. Hashtag fitfamilyfun 🙂 
Wednesday: Ran 4 miles @ 8:51 pace. Super speedy run! The weather was perfect, I used my Nike Running App because I forgot my Garmin at home. So the whole time I couldn’t look down at my pace, which might not be such a bad thing after all. 
Thursday: 7 miles @ 9:14 pace. I love the lake front path that I run from my mom’s house. It’s so peaceful and not at all crowded. Definitely my favorite place to run along Lake Michigan.
fitsnap 1Friday: I went to Jen’s Interval Barre which was awesome! My legs and butt got a great workout. Then she and I went for coffee and a bite to eat, shopped at Lululemon, and I squeezed in a pedicure. My idea of a perfect day off from work. 
Saturday: {Not so} Sweet 16 @ 10:12 pace. My longest run since the marathon last year. Even though I drank a TON of water the day before, the humidity and sun still got to me. Not to mention my tired legs. I knew that would be the price to pay for giving it 100% at interval, but it was definitely worth it. This Friday though, I will for sure be taking it easy 🙂 
longrunSunday: Hubs and I were going to go to the Spartan Race workout at Miller park, but I didn’t think that would be the best idea. My body needed a break. Instead, we headed to brunch at Blue’s Egg and took my grandfather on a brewery tour at Sprecher. That was a lot more tolerable 🙂 I did tell hubs that I’d participate in the Spartan sprint with him though, which is in November. It’ll be my first obstacle course race! 
Question: What’s your one training/running must have? For these long summer runs, I’d have to say sunglasses and my hydration belt. AND I just discovered my love for salted watermelon Gu! So delish!
